A newborn baby believed to have been killed has not been found a week after her death, according to police in Iowa.
Police at Fort Dodge On Tuesday, Nov. 22, it was learned that the woman “gave birth at home, that the newborn later died, and that the body was moved from the place of birth to another location,” according to a Nov. 29 press release.
Officers launched a homicide investigation, but the child was not found, police said. The search continues.
“All available resources and manpower have been deployed to try to locate the body of the newborn and to investigate the circumstances of his birth, death and disappearance of the remains,” police said.
Police interviewed eyewitnesses and searched various places of interest for the newborn. The mother has not been identified and it is unclear if she is considered a suspect in the homicide investigation.
Police asked anyone with surveillance video in the area of Central Avenue, E. Kenyon Road, South 7th and South 12th Streets to contact law enforcement.
