At night in Pierce County one was killed and another wounded


Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a shooting on Sunday, March 5, in the Spanavia area.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, one person was killed and seriously injured in a couple of nighttime shootings at Graham and Spanowa bars on Sunday.

Shortly before 2 a.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a shooting in Quarter 9800 on 224th Street East in Graham. According to initial information, one person was shot, and the suspect is still at the scene.

Deputies found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound on the road. He died at the scene, the agency said.

The suspected shooter, a 25-year-old man, escaped on an ATV and drove to a nearby field. The man was reportedly armed and hiding. Deputies called the K-9 unit and with the help of a dog and thermal imagers found the man.

The man was arrested and jailed in Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.

The Graham fatal incident came after a previous shooting in Spanaway. Reports do not indicate that the incidents were related.

A dispatch call during the Spanaway incident came at 1:21 p.m. Deputies responded to a bar in Quarter 19300 Mountain Highway East, near the Roy Y intersection. According to the sheriff’s department, initial 911 calls reported that the shooting occurred after the concert.

At the time of arrival of deputies, the victim was not at the scene. Witnesses say the man drove away. Soon, deputies found a vehicle and injured a 38-year-old man a few blocks north. With life-threatening injuries, he was taken to a local hospital.

investigators did not find the suspect in the shooter. The investigation is ongoing.
