Barbara Gene Wilkinson Taylor – Washington Daily News

86-year-old Mrs. Barbara Gene Wilkinson Taylor of Wansbar, North Carolina, died peacefully with her daughters next to Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Wansborough. Burial will take place at Palmetto Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Wilkerson’s Funeral Home.

Mrs. Taylor was born on June 28thth 1935 in Washington, North Carolina, the late Vernon Wilkinson Sr. and Margaret Everett Waters. She worked at DuPont for a few years and then ran the Nobles restaurant for 20 years. Mrs. Taylor worked and later retired from the Craven County Sheriff’s Department in 1994. She attended the Western Wansbar Church of God and the Free Will Baptist Church in the Juniper Chapel. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Wansboro, North Carolina.

Along with Mrs. Taylor’s parents, her 47-year-old husband Garland E. Taylor Sr. and son Garland E. Taylor Jr. (Woody) died; great-grandson, Boston Lawrence Johnson; sisters, Connie Waters Broadway, Vicki Waters Foy; brother, Vernon W. Wilkinson Jr.; son-in-law, John L. Dixon Sr .; a special friend, Francis Andrews and her faithful fur companion “Pansy”.

Mrs. Taylor is survived by: daughters Gene Taylor Wright and husband Wayne of Williamston, Tammy Taylor Dixon-Phillips and husband Jerry of Vansboro; grandchildren Nicole Mitchell, Timothy Alvarez, Derek Taylor, John Dixon and wife Debra, Amber Smith and Erica Johnson and husband Nick; great-grandchildren Ariel Johnson, Taylor Ambrose, Anna and Brian Alvarez, Emily Gibble, Bentley Johnson, Owen Dixon, James Taylor, and Bristol and Braille Johnson; great-granddaughter, Emberlin Johnson; sisters, Margie W. Dixon and husband Billy, Linda W. Forns and Judy W. Davenport; brother, Charlie Waters Jr.; daughters-in-law, Diane W. Hamrick, Ethel Hudson, Macy Duby and Louise Johnson and special nephew Earl McKisick; along with many other nephews and nephews.

Memorials can be made at Juniper Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 655 Piney Neck Road, Vanceboro, NC 28586.
