BCCC congratulates the Darragh Foundation Fellows

The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following Darragh Foundation Scholars. The Beaufort Promise Scholarship will continue for qualified students from Beaufort, Hyde, Tyrrell and Washington counties, and private scholarships, such as the Darragh Foundation Scholarship, can help cover textbook costs. Other recipients will be announced in the spring.
Founded in 1998 by Richard and Mildred Darragh, The Darragh Family focuses on the impact of education in the communities it serves. The mission of the Darragh Foundation is “Helping improve the lives of others”. Scholarships are awarded to continuing education students seeking a high school equivalency diploma and to students seeking industry-recognized credentials returning to the workforce. Scholarships are awarded twice a year and students must show academic promise and demonstrate need.
Tierra Thompson, 37, is a resident of Kelford and in the esthetics program. She attended Bertie High School. Thompson currently works in temporary health care as a personal care assistant. She plans to open her own resort. (No image.)
Fatima Torres, 20, is a resident of Washington, D.C., in the esthetics program and has an associate’s degree in human service technology. She attended Bertie High School.
Harley Wallace, 19, a resident of Pinetown and a culinary arts student. She attended Wallace Christian Academy. She now works at First Church of Christ and plans to be a chef.
Kimberly Watkins, 64, is a resident of Washington and enrolled in the Industrial Sewing and Upholstery program. Watkins attended Washington High School.
Velari Wesson, 49, is a Plymouth resident and natural hair student. She attended Bertie County High School and was a natural hair businesswoman.
Reshunda Wiggins35 year old Williamston resident and phlebotomy student. She currently works as a nurse and medication aide at Favorite Healthcare Staffing. Wiggins attended Riverside High School and holds certificates in Nursing, Nursing II and Nursing.
Akim Webb, 33, is a resident of Portsmouth, Virginia and enrolled in the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program. Webb attended Plymouth High School. Webb currently works for the city of Norfolk as a maintenance worker. He plans to become an owner operator.
Harold White, 59, is a resident of New Bern and enrolled in the Industrial Sewing and Upholstery program. White attended West Craven High School. He now works for Bosch Home Appliances and plans to go into boat upholstery. (No image.)
Heike Woolard, 52, is a resident of Bath and a student of Industrial Sewing and Furniture Upholstery. She currently works as an accountant at Riverside Excavation. She studied at the Gesamtschule Gustav Hemenounn in Berlin and holds an Associate Professor of Applied Science in Administration and an Associate Professor of Applied Science in Accounting. She is the wife of Tony Woolard, the mother of two children, and the daughter of Christel and Hans Jürgen Preinel.
