BOSTON (AP) — Tyler Bertuzzi scored a goal in his Boston debut and Linus Ullmark made 24 saves to help the NHL-leading Bruins beat Patrick Kane and the New York Rangers 4-2 on Saturday.
Charlie Coyle scored off a Bertucci feed and scored Tomasz Nosek for Boston’s 10th straight win. The Bruins improved to 26-2-3 at home and increased their season total to 103 points.
Boston stars David Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron each scored in the third period. It was Pastrnak’s 44th of the season and Bergeron’s No. 23.
Playing in his first game since making a club record 54 saves in overtime against Calgary on Tuesday, Ullmark ran his record to 32-4-1.
Alexis Lafreniere scored both goals for New York, Igor Shesterkin blocked 20 shots. The Rangers have lost six of eight.
Kane, acquired in a trade from Chicago on Tuesday, is scoreless in two games with the Rangers.
Boston forward Brad Marchand is back in the lineup after missing the final half of Thursday’s win with a lower-body injury.
By becoming the fastest team in NHL history to score 100 points in their final game, the Bruins completed a three-game season sweep of the Rangers.
Acquired in a trade with Detroit on Thursday, Bertuzzi took the puck behind the net and fed it to Coyle, who one-timed it past Shesterkin to make it 1-0 at 18:07 of the first period. The new Bruins forward picked up his stick and pointed at Coyle after scoring his first point with the club.
Coyle then fed a pass to a cutting Nosek, who moved quickly to the edge of the crease before tucking the puck into the net just behind Shesterkin’s left skate 30 seconds into the second.
The spirited matchup — with fans chanting for each team — featured two teams that made postseason roster additions before Friday’s trade deadline.
New York took three-time Stanley Cup winner from Chicago and four-time All-Star Vladimir Tarasenko from St. Louis, while Boston also got defenseman Dmitri Orlov and forward Garnett Hathaway from Washington before passing on Bertuzzi, who scored 30 in the latter heads. season.
THE NEXT VEZINA WINNER?
Shesterkin was last season’s Vezina Trophy winner and Ullmark is the favorite to win it this year.
