The Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Vancouver police are searching for a suspect in a shooting that left one person injured early Monday morning. The suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous.
According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to the Del Terrace Apartments, 7422 NE Hazel Dell Ave., after multiple 911 callers reported gunshots and screaming. Deputies arrived around 1:35 a.m. to find a man in the parking lot with a single gunshot wound to the torso. The suspect has already fled the apartment building.
“The shooting victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound,” the statement said.
The agency said the suspect, victim and witnesses knew each other.
Around 2:20 a.m., a Vancouver police officer spotted a suspicious vehicle in the North Image area of East Vancouver. The driver of the car tried to flee from police, but crashed a few blocks later and then fled on foot.
The vehicle was found by police near Northeast 49th Street and 137th Avenue.
“The Southwest Washington Regional SWAT Team was deployed to begin a search for the suspect,” the sheriff’s office said. “At this time, resources were focused on a residence known to be associated with the suspect located adjacent to where the vehicle was found.”
As of 6:30 a.m., the suspect was not in custody and should be considered armed and dangerous.
A description of the suspect was not provided.
The case is being investigated by the Clark County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit.
