LOS ANGELES (AP) – Jake DeBrusk got his first hat-trick of his career early in his first game with 4 points, and Patrice Bergeron added a goal and two assists in the 7-0 defeat to Boston Bruins against Los Angeles Kings Monday night.
Eric Howla scored two goals and Jeremy Swiman made 34 saves in his fifth career for the Bruins, whose fifth win in a row matched their longest winning streak of the season. Boston has earned a point in seven of its last eight games.
DeBrusk scored his three goals in the first 21 minutes, and Bruins fans covered the Los Angeles ice with hats after his third goal was confirmed by video review.
Taylor Hall also scored a goal when Boston broke a winning streak of five games from the Kings, who have lost mostly just the second time in 13 games since Jan. 20. The Kings in front of Boston took it for five goals with 19 shots.
Cal Petersen replaced Quick in the second period and conceded both goals to Howl in the third. The Kings were eliminated for the first time in 30 games since Dec. 6, while Swayman received his second lockout in February.
But the Los Angeles series, ahead of its rivals, reached 21 games with a late flurry of throws at Swayman. The Kings series became the second longest in NHL history, lagging behind the New York Rangers record in 22 games in late 1971.
Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak and Charlie McEvoy gave two assists each for the Bruins, who did not win halfway through six games on the West Coast. Boston has not lost in a Los Angeles regulation in eight meetings since 2016.
DeBrusk requested a replacement in November at his only NHL organization, but it has thrived since he was transferred to the top line of Boston. He scored two goals last Thursday in Seattle during the opening race, and his hat-trick in Los Angeles gives him seven goals and a return during a five-game series.
DeBrusk opened the scoring just 1:01 after the initial pressure, scoring on goal assists by front-line colleagues Marchand and Bergerano. He then took advantage of Mike Anderson’s stunning turn from Los Angeles, intercepting the puck in the top slit and heading for Quick.
DeBrusk completed his hat-trick in 53 seconds of the second period, a cunning deflection of Bergeran’s high shot.
Bruins: at the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday.
Kings: A four-game trip that opens in Boston on March 7 will open Wednesday at the Dallas Stars.
