Fatal shooting in Puyallup: Police search for suspect

A Puyallup barber was shot and killed while he was cutting a child’s hair Wednesday night, according to Puyallup Police.

According to Puyallup police spokesman Ryan Portman, a report of shots fired in the 100 block of East Stewart Avenue came in at 5:09 p.m.

Portman said the 43-year-old victim was the owner of a hair salon. He was a resident of Tacoma.

“The suspect entered and proceeded to a certain room where this particular barber was working and shot the barber multiple times while the child was sitting in the barber’s chair,” Portman said.

Central Pierce Fire and Rescue responded to the scene a few minutes later and determined the man was dead, police said.

“It doesn’t appear that robbery was the motive,” Portman said. He also said that an 8-year-old boy was sitting in the chair. Several other people were in the store at the time and cooperated with the police.

Police are looking for a suspect who fled the scene on foot. He is described as a 5ft 8in tall man, wearing black trousers, a black jacket and possibly a mask.

Police are asking anyone who lives or works in the area to check security camera footage for anyone matching this description. Tips can be obtained by calling 253-770-3343 or emailing tips@puyallupwa.gov.
