Food Bank adds a satellite location – Washington Daily News

Chocowinity residents who find it difficult to feed their families will now have a local source of nutritional options that Eagles Wings Food Pantry has been offering for over 30 years.

The newest satellite site, located in the First Baptist Church on Highway 33 NC, opened last month for a group of enthusiastic residents.

Organizers called the debut a success, praising Pastor Greg Hombirg and his congregation for conveying information so that locals could benefit from the propaganda.

“It happened because we had individual residents who helped us promote and work with us. This is a testimony not so much to the Eagles Wings as to the church community here, and the atmosphere they have created to welcome people to an unknown worship service. It is not easy for people to ask for help, especially for the first time, ”said Kathleen Kouch, food chamber’s customer relations coordinator.

A small group of volunteers, most of them members of the First Baptist, loaded several long tables in the church’s communication hall with boxes filled to the brim. Recipients went home with canned food, dry food, cereals, rice, milk, juice, fresh produce, eggs, meat and cheese, as well as a short service from Homberg, who opened the event that day with prayer and a lesson on overturning. times in the “opportunity to grow”.

The main building and warehouse of the food pantry is located on Third Street in Washington. In addition to the new Chocowinity website, which is open on the fourth Thursday of each month, there are two more. Aurora is located in New Growth Unlimited Ministries, open on the third Thursday of each month, and a Spanish-friendly location is in the Alpha and Omega Church in Chakovin, which is open on the first Thursday of the month – to help residents who cannot easily reach Eagles Wings .

All customers are required to have an identity card with a photograph or letter indicating the residence of Beaufort County. Recipients of food stamps and Medicaid must also carry these qualification cards.
