Frederic Andersen’s new collection takes fashion to a high era

Frederic Andersen’s latest Spring/Summer 2023 collection reflects on the search for beauty in reconnecting with the world.

In a world full of confusion, longing and frustration due to the pandemic, designer Frederic Anderson’s new collection is a gem in the world of fashion that has finally left the house. Inspired by his journey to rediscover the beauty in life, Anderson launched his Spring/Summer 2023 collection ‘The Garden Party’ on September 12 at Moonlight Studios to invite you to explore the inner workings of your mind.

The event opened with a slideshow of images of police brutality, pride parades and forest fires.

“It’s time for us to take responsibility for where we’re going,” Anderson said. “I started with these images because that’s what we’re bombarded with at this point in time, trying to find beauty, that’s where we are.”

The show was visually divided into two parts — the first of which emphasized form and texture. The outfits during the first half featured neutral tones to draw attention to the detailed textures of the fabrics, including tweed. Anderson also implemented skillful crochet in both fitted and loose designs, becoming something that seems to have become a new element of his work.

The second half of the show featured looks that paid tribute to Anderson’s evolution as an artist, embodying his earlier designs in line with contemporary trends. The low-waisted pieces were paired with his signature lace embellishments, as well as garments with bright colors, loose structure and movement that graced the runway. Mariama Camara, head of Mariama Fashion Production and a long-time friend of Anderson’s, said the sophisticated blend of his past and present techniques reflects that he remains rooted in what inspires him most.

“It’s definitely one of the most beautiful collections he’s ever done.” – said Kamara. “His designs have definitely evolved and reached a new level, but there are a few pieces that I always see and love. This year he chose a really luxurious material and color.’

Anderson has made his mark among today’s designers, leading the fashion world with contemporary trends infused with the elegance of his crochet jewelry. From delicate lace slinky dresses to contemporary crochet tops paired with low-rise tweed trousers, Anderson’s collection remained diverse but followed a theme of growth, evolution and rebirth.

“Growth comes through process, not the other way around,” Anderson said. “I don’t look at it as, ‘Oh, I’m going to Sri Lanka’ and doing a collection. I think of it more like where am I now? Where is my thinking model? Where am I going now? What do I feel emotionally? My clients love me because they know I take them on my journey with me.”
