ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Patrick Gardner had 22 points and 11 rebounds as Marist controlled from the start in a 61-50 victory over Manhattan on Tuesday night in the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament.
After an early 12-4 Marist lead, the Jaspers closed to within 18-17 when Nick Brennen hit a 3-pointer with 6:38 left before halftime. But Jaspers couldn’t score again, and Marist (11-19) scored the next 18 points to take a 19-point lead into halftime. Gardner scored 10 in that span.
Manhattan twice came within four – 48-44 and 50-46 – but never got closer.
Ant Nelson had 15 points and Josh Roberts had 11 and 13 rebounds for Manhattan (12-18).
