Mr. Stowe was born in Beaufort County on April 7, 1952. He was the son of the late Guy Beecher Stowe Jr. and Christine Toler Stowe. Guy graduated from Washington High School in 1970 as an athlete in two sports and the number one tennis player in the WHS rankings. Guy “Buba” Stowe then joined the United States Navy and received the status of a radio operator with top-secret US military permission. As a Vietnam-era naval serviceman, Guy spent time at a naval base in Roth, Spain, but longed for his home in eastern North Carolina. Upon his return, he took advantage of the GI bill, using transition classes from Beaufort County Public College to graduate from the University of East Carolina. Guy was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Optimist club and for many years organized the sale of a barbecue plate, which helped finance the Optimist football league. He was a competitive member of the Washington Rocket Club, played on USTA tennis teams with many other Beaufort County residents who became dear friends. Over the decades of his tennis, many have recognized his skills as one of the best in eastern North Carolina. Throughout his career, Guy served as a mortgage officer. Often complete strangers told members of his family that when buying a home Guy treated them with the utmost respect and kindness.

Mr. Stowe was married to former Carol Sue Smith, who survived.

Survived with his wife was daughter Blair Elizabeth Stowe of Washington; son, Gray Thomas Stowe of Denver, California; brother William Lenz Stowe (Patricia Perry Stowe) of Washington; two nieces, Dr. Hailey Beecher Stowe of St. Louis, Missouri, Erin Cutler Stowe of Greensboro, North Carolina, and his beloved uncle, “Captain” Steve Toler and wife of Mary Lichfield Toler of Washington.

In addition to his parents, Buba was the death of his sister Deborah Ann Stowe when he was just ten years old. The loss of his sister, who was 12 at the time of his death, affected Guy so much that we can never fully understand.

Instead of flowers commemorative signs can be made by the Alliance of Dementia of North Carolina, Washington Athletic High School Club – PO Box 456, Washington NC 27889 or the First United Methodist Church.
