Jimmy Shane drives Miss Homestreet to win San Diego and win the national title

Jimmy Shane won the race and won the season title on Sunday at the San Diego Bayfair.

Shane won the preliminaries and the finals of the Bill Muncie U-1 Miss HomeStreet Cup. Shane scored enough points to also claim the National High Points title.

Shane took the riders’ title on Saturday and the team’s title on Sunday. This is the 11th title for the Miss Madison team in the last 14 years. It was Shane’s seventh title in nine years. He is tied for second most national titles with Muncie and Chip Hanauer. Dave Villwock holds the record with 10.

It was a big weekend for Shane, who broke the course qualifying record (164.759), won Saturday’s Showdown and all three of Sunday’s events.

Women’s football

• Seattle U’s game against New Mexico State was delayed due to lightning. In the 49th minute, the match was 0:0. Play will resume on Monday at noon.

Brianna McReynolds and Margie Detrizio scored as Washington State (6-1-1) wrapped up nonconference play with a 2-0 win at St. Mary’s.

Minors

Eric Mejia was 3 for 6 with a first-inning grand slam and five RBIs as the Tacoma Rainiers beat Las Vegas 19-9. Kyle Lewis was 3 for 5 with a homer and four RBIs for the Rainiers, who have won four of six games in the series with the Aviators.
