Madrid taxi drivers are protesting against the proposed rules of the trip

MADRID (AP) – Hundreds of taxi drivers protested on the streets of Madrid on Wednesday against what they saw as unfair competition from travel services.

Drivers took part in a march through the Spanish capital, protesting in their cars and on foot.

The proposal of the city government to create new rules for motor services was put to a vote on Thursday at the municipal assembly.

Workers complain that the proposed provision does not include mandatory weekends, working hours and other conditions necessary for taxi drivers.

The professional federation of Madrid taxis, which organized the protest, claims that for every two taxis in Madrid there is one vehicle, although local law limits their number to one for every 30 taxis.
