Margot leads off, Rays make it 2-1 Marlins in the 10th

MIAMI (AP) — Manuel Margot singled in the top of the 10th inning and prevented a run with a fly ball to deep center in the bottom half to lead the Tampa Bay Rays past the Miami Marlins 2-1 on Wednesday night.

The Marlins walked Yandy Diaz on purpose before Margot’s line drive single to right field drove in Yu Chang’s automatic runner from second.

Jason Adam (2-2) tossed a scoreless ninth and Jalen Bix got three outs in the bottom of the 10th for his second save. Margot, who had just moved from right field to center, tracked Charles LeBlanc out to the warning track and made a diving catch. The Beeks then struck out Payton Burdick and retired Joey Wendle.

Diaz reached base five times, recording three hits and two walks. Harold Ramirez had three hits for the Rays, who lead the AL wild-card race.

Drew Rasmussen went six innings for Tampa Bay, allowing four hits and one run — John Bertie’s homer in the sixth to tie the game at 1-1.

Marlins left-hander Trevor Rogers made his first start since July 25, when he went on the injured list with lower back spasms. He also allowed one run in six innings.

Ramirez’s RBI double put the Rays on top 1-0 in the sixth. Bertie sent Rasmussen’s slider over the left field wall to tie it.

The Marlins had two on and one out in the eighth after LeBlanc led off with a single and Wendle struck out. But Colin Posh got out of the jam, inducing two groundouts.

Miami again failed to capitalize in the ninth after Adam walked Garrett Cooper and Jacob Stallings with one out. Lewin Diaz started a double play.

Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard, wearing a No. 25 Marlins jersey, missed the ceremonial first pitch.

The Rays recalled INF/OF Vidal Bruhan and right-hander Calvin Faucher from Triple-A Durham.

The Marlins designated LHP Jake Fishman for assignment after recalling Rodgers.
