66th The annual Panhandle Watermelon will be held June 24-25 at Jim Trevik Park and the Washington County Agricultural Center.
This evening, country music performers Josh Turner and Shenandoah will perform with a festival chair. The free family event will also include activities for children from 17:00 and a concert from 18:00.
The chairman of the festival, Judge Colby Peel, says that although in today’s world everything seems to be more expensive, the event is still free, ”he said. “We are not thrilled with the music and the events we have planned again this year. Even with rising costs we can still hold this free event for the community. Our community has been hosting this event for more than sixty years, and the success of this festival can be attributed to sponsors, volunteers, participants and everyone who attends. ”
Happy faces and family cohesion make work worthwhile, Peel said. “Watching families go out and watch quality entertainment and enjoy the many activities for free, doing everything we do is worth it.”
The event will continue on Saturday, June 25, with Pancake Breakfast, 5K Hot Lynx, Watermelon Parade, Classic Car Show, Big Watermelon Auction, Suppliers of Arts, Crafts and Food. In addition, at 11:00 in the AG-center will sound gospel music from The Thompsons, and at 13:30 – country singer Billy Dean.
We invite everyone to come out and support this event in our community. For more information, visit: www.panhandlewatermelon.com or follow the event pages on Facebook or Instagram.
