A customer at a New York City steakhouse stabbed a co-worker after he became “enraged” over an argument with an employee, according to the New York Police Department.

A customer was sitting at a nearby table at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Manhattan when the man began arguing with an employee just after 10 p.m. on Nov. 4, the New York Police Department said in a statement.

She and another woman sitting at the table with her were “angry about the disturbance,” the statement said.

She got up, approached the man and stabbed him in the back, police said.

Police said she and another woman she was sitting with ran from the restaurant, which is located near Times Square.

Officers arrested Joan Thompson at 2:20 a.m. Nov. 5 on charges of assault and battery in connection with the incident, police said.

A spokesman for Ruth’s Chris Steak House, which has 147 locations worldwide, said in a statement that the company is cooperating with the police department.

“We are shocked by the incident that occurred at our restaurant and are working with the New York Police Department to assist in any way we can,” the statement said. “The safety of our guests and team members is paramount.”

Medics responded to the scene and transported the victim, who is 24, to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

Thompson was released on bail on November 6. Her bail amount is not listed in jail records.
