“Island of Fire” (2022) is an amazing assortment of Jane Austen’s film “Pride and Prejudice” with a romantic comedy set in a multicultural community of young gays during their summer vacations. Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Ian have starred as best friends in their 30s, promising to make the most of what could be their last annual meeting when they encounter a group of wealthy gays from Manhattan society. Eddie Redman returns as the magician and magician Newt Scamander “Fantastic Monsters: Dumbledore’s Secrets” (2022, PG-13), the third film in the science fiction series The Magic World, set in the decade before Harry Potter. Jude Law plays Albus Dumbledore and Colum Turner, Dan Fogler, Jessica Williams and Mads Mickelsen. The first two films of the series are also available for broadcast. (HBO Max)
Two bank robbers (Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Matin II) steal “Ambulance” (2022, R) after a bank theft goes south and they take a paramedic (Ace Gonzalez) hostage, trying to escape a flight through Los Angeles. Michael Bay returns to his roots as a director of high-speed action with this energetic thriller about theft. (Peacock)
The hyperactive mascot of the video game is back “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” (2022, PG) to fight the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his animation partner Knuckles (voice of Idris Elba) in an extensive pursuit of the almighty emerald. Or something like that. (Primary +)
Danny Boyle tells the true story of punk rock legends who include Sex Pistols “Pistol” (unrated), a limited six-part series that tells the band how impresario Malcolm McLaren (Thomas Brody-Sangster) glorifies them. Broadcast of all series. (Hulu)
“Borgen – strength and glory: season 1” (Denmark, TV-MA, with subtitles) revives the brilliant Danish political drama with Sids Babett Nadsen as the idealistic politician Birgit Newberg. Also available is the original “Borgen: Complete Series” (2010-2013, Denmark, TV-MA, with subtitles). (Netflix)
