State MP Lori Dolan announced on Wednesday that she will not seek re-election and will step down from the Washington State Legislature in late 2022.

A Democrat from Olympia has been in office since 2016.

In a statement issued Wednesday afternoon, Dolan said the time she held as a representative was “an honor and a privilege.”

“I am grateful to the residents of the 22nd district who gave me the opportunity to work on the priorities of our communities, as well as the future of our state,” Dolan said. “I will be very homesick with my colleagues and voters on a variety of issues, from improving education to helping our hard-working civil servants, but it’s a good time for me to step aside and spend more time with family.”

Dolan, who has twice survived cancer, served as political director for former Gov. Chris Gregoire before being elected Olympia’s representative to the State House.

Sean Sowersby was a freelance contributor to several local and national publications before joining the McClachie Northwest Newspapers, which cover the legislature.
