One was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender

Employee report

Refusal to register as a sex offender led one man to a Washington County jail.

Investigators from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) have received information about 61-year-old David Elford, who lives in a house on Spolmill Road in Vernon.

After confirming Ellford’s status as a sex offender through the FDLE and his refusal to register in any county in the state, investigators headed to the residence.

Upon arrival at the Spoolmill Road residence, contact was made with a man who gave false identity information but quickly declined to respond and said, “Yes, sir, I’m sorry,” the WCSO said in a statement. Alfard then began to flee from investigators, but was quickly taken into custody.

Elfford is accused of providing LEO with false information about sex offenders, failure to disclose a name or change of residence, failure to register as required, and resisting nonviolent arrest.
