ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Martin Perez quickly decided he would not be out of the game after taking off his right shin at 97 mph.
The Texas left-hander did not want to interrupt the best part of his career.
Perez walked out of all 16 batters after shaking a shin blow, lowering his leading ERA with seven zero innings in the Rangers ’3-0 win over the Tampa Bay Race on Tuesday night.
“This ball put me on another level with these guys and I said,‘ I have to do this, ’” Perez said. “My time has come. It’s time to show up and do it for the guys. “
Corey Seeger scored Texas ’first shot in the fourth inning, and Adalis Garcia added two strokes after two strokes when the Rangers won for the first sixth time in seven games and reached 0.500 for the first time (24-24). this season.
It took Perez a few minutes to recover from Taylor Wallace’s scorching single in the backyard in the second. He stayed, forced Vidal Bruhan to fly to the next field with two runners and from there made five excellent innings.
John King made a perfect eighth inning, and Joe Barlow did the same in the ninth for his ninth save when the Rangers took off the last 22 bounces.
The 31-year-old Perez is in second place on the team that signed him as a teenager from Venezuela. He extended the longest active series in the majors, preventing Homer to 66 1/3 innings.
Gareth Richards climbed the Texas bullpen after Perez was hit, and Perez descended into the tunnel at the end of the half. He told the training staff that he was fine. Manager Chris Woodward has already gotten that drift.
“As soon as he pulled up his pants to check his shin, he said,‘ Okay, that struck me. They woke me up, ”Woodward said. “I was like,‘ Oh, boy. Be careful. ‘”
With his eighth consecutive start, which allowed no more than one earned run, Perez lowered his ERA to 1.42. He allowed a total of four earned runs for 55 1/3 innings, as he gave up three in each of the first two starts, both of his losses.
“He just knows how to read a swing and read how people go,” Seeger said. “His control is simply impressive. I don’t understand how you explain it. It’s very fun to be behind and very interesting to watch. “
Perez (4-2) scored five without a run in his first start against Race, as they fought him off three times when he was with Boston last season in a 7-3 win over Tampa Bay.
Randy Arazaren, Yandi Diaz and Mike Zunina delved into the game last July in Florida. These three managed only one from Diaz in eight bits against Perez, and Zunin had two of three strikeouts.
“He had a lot of late life, a lot of late action in the zone,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “Add to that the fact that it bounced to the edges, that it felt like all night with each bounce, you’ll have a quiet offensive night.”
Ryan Yarbro (0-2) gave up six strokes and three runs for 6 2/3 innings. He hit Josh Smith twice a day with a step after Smith received three hits in his debut in the Premier League.
WHAT TRY
Rangers won the first month of June 2019, finishing May 17-10. Perez finished the month with a 0.64 ERA, the best of any month for any American League pitcher with at least 40 innings since Johan Santana of Minnesota finished 0.45 in September 2004. It was the second best ERA of any month for the Texas pitcher (Jovani Gallardo, 0.54, June 2015).

Rangers: Opening start John Gray (1-2, 5.56) is set for his eighth start in his first season with Texas. Tampa Bay is one of six teams the right-hander has never faced.
