Flags are displayed at the Olympics from the opening to the closing ceremony.
Athletes wrap the flags of their countries after the victory or proudly wave them as they triumphantly circle the rinks. In the stands, fans raise flags to show their support at competitions. Flags are also raised at the medal ceremony in honor of those who make their way to the podium.
At the Beijing Games, Xu Mentao waved a Chinese flag over her head after winning gold in the ski antenna final. Erin Jackson carried the American flag on the ice after winning gold in the 500-meter speed skating race. And during the final of the freestyle on the big air gold medalist Birk Ruud from Norway held the flag of his country.
