On a day when most high school sports in Southwest Washington are over, the baseball fraternity is glad Monday’s game was included.
The Titans beat defending Class 2A state champion Tumwater, 10-3, to open the season on their home artificial turf after Monday’s extended rainout.
Tumwater took a 3-0 lead in the first inning with Brayden Oram leading off the game with a home run.
But Union rallied with two runs in the second to tie the game at 3-3 in the fourth.
The Titans plated a fourth run in the fifth inning after the first four batters reached base on a single, a walk and two strikeouts.
Union’s Blake Geffert went 2-for-2 with a double, triple and three runs scored. Dylan Richardson pitched three scoreless innings while allowing one hit.
