Prep preview: Skyview boys rally falls short against Kentwood 71-60

The Skyview boys basketball team was held scoreless in the second half in a 71-60 loss against Kentwood.

Skyview (8-6) trailed by 14 at the half as the Storm had to sit out four players due to fouls.

The Storm managed to get within 57-49 with 5:39 left, but Kentwood made some big shots and went 7-for-7 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

DeMarie Collins led the Storm with 28 points. Javen Fletch had 10 points in his first start of the season and Malakai Weimer led the way with 13 rebounds.

Girls basketball

WOODLAND 40, COLUMBIA RIVER 34 — Woodland handed Columbia River its first league loss with a 2A Big League St. Helens win at River’s home field.

River (8-4, 8-1 overall) led 16-10 at halftime and the Beavers (10-4, 7-2) closed the gap to 26-24 late in the third quarter.

Adi Stedding led Woodland with 10 points, all in the second half.

Marley Myers led River with 11 points.

RA LONG 46, HAWKINSON 43 — The Lumberjills scored as many points from the free throw line (23) as they did from the field and held off Hawkinson for their first win of the 2A GSHL season.

RA Long (1-9, 1-8 2A GSHL) was 23-of-37 from the line, while Hawkinson was just 4-of-13.

Grace House had 17 points and eight rebounds, while Brayelle Box had 14 points and eight rebounds.

Ellie Seekins and Sienna Brown each had 14 points for Hawkinson (1-11, 1-7).

Stars of the day

  • Gretchen Lane, a Prairie gymnast, won the all-around with a time of 35.15 in a meet with Union, Prairie and Ridgefield. She was first on bars (9.1) and floor (9.5), second on bars and third on vault.
  • Owen Robertson, Union boys swimming, won the 200m freestyle (1:46.61), the 500m freestyle (4:51.55), anchored the Titans’ 200m medley victory (1:42 .64) and started the winning 400 m freestyle relay (3:29.97). ) at the Kelso Invitational.
