Prep volleyball: Camas, Prairie earn berths in state tournaments

Two St. Helens Big League volleyball teams punched their tickets to state Friday as the Camas Papermakers (4A) and Prairie Falcons (3A) both went 2-0 and advanced to the semifinals of the bi-district tournament.

Dvrayon 4A — Camas opened with a 3-0 win over Rogers of Puyallup, then beat Kennedy Catholic 3-1 in a late quarterfinal match for a trip to state. Camas will play Puyallup in Saturday’s bi-district semifinal.

Skyview lost 3-1 and Union lost 3-0 in their opening matches before having to meet in the loser’s bracket. The Storm knocked out their 4A GSHL opponents 3-0.

Skyview will play Kennedy in another loser-out game Saturday morning. The Storm will need to win at least two games Saturday to advance to state.

3A two-district — Prairie earned a spot in the 3A state tournament with a pair of wins.

Prairie opened with a 3-0 win over Auburn, 25-20, 25-21, 25-9, then clinched a state berth with a 3-0 win over Spanaway Lake, 25-13, 25-12. 25-18. The Falcons will take on Peninsula Saturday in the semifinals.

1A national tournament — La Center fell short in the first round at Yakima, falling to Eastside Prep in five sets, 25-20, 17-25, 24-26, 25-21, 15-9.

The Wildcats beat Connell in a 25-13, 25-23, 25-15 shutout, with Ella Schoene leading the way with 25 kills, four blocks and 11 digs. Billy Ross had 13 kills and 12 digs and Grace Clinton had 26 assists.

La Center will face Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls in Saturday’s seventh-place semifinal.

Castle Rock won her first match, defeating Lakeside in five 22-25, 25-23, 26-24, 20-25, 15-11, but then lost to Annie Wright 3-0 late in the quarterfinals to drop to the fifth-seed bracket where Eastside Prep will play.

State Tournament 2B — Kalama lost both matches on championship day. The Chinooks lost in the semifinals to Colfax 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 30-28, 25-18) before losing in the third-place match to Manson 3-0 (25-23 , 25-22, 25-17).

La Conner beat Colfax 3-1 to win the title. The score was 25-12, 24-26, 25-19, 25-18.
