Preparation Highlights: Washougal baseball rallies to win in extra innings

In its first game of the season, the Washougal baseball team defeated King’s Way Christian 15-8 in baseball on Tuesday at Luke Jensen Sports Park.

The Panthers got off to a slow start, falling behind 7-0 after two innings.

But Washougal came up clutch when the pressure was on. Travis Gibson hit a two-run double to tie the game at 8-8 in the seventh to force extra innings.

The Panthers scored seven runs in the ninth inning to secure the road win.

Sam McKee went 4 for 5 with four runs, three RBIs and a two-run double in the ninth inning.

  • Max Frazier and Ryan McCluskey, Camas, combined to allow four hits and strike out 12 in a 3-1 win over Mountain View.
  • Chanz Flores, Hudson’s Bay Baseball, went 2-for-4 over 5 2/3 innings, allowing two hits, one run and striking out seven in a 4-2 win over Evergreen.
  • Prairie shortstop Brady Trumbella pitched five hitless innings with 12 strikeouts and went 2-for-4 in a 5-1 win over Ridgefield.
  • Jayla Ellis, Heritage softball, went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double and three runs scored in an 8-1 win over Kelso. She also went seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out six.
  • Skyview softballer Addison Harmier went 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored in a 16-0 win over Clackamas (Are.).
  • Nia Tate, Prairie softball, went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs in an 8-3 win over Camas.
  • Columbia River Soccer’s Alex Harris scored five goals in St. Helens’ 7-0 season-opening Big League opener win over Hudson’s Bay.
  • Fort Vancouver boys soccer player Michel Diaz scored the golden goal off a corner kick from Julian Villa as the Trappers beat Washougal 2-1 in overtime to open the 2A GSHL season.
