Slow start, slow finish sinks Castle Rock against Zilla 68-56

Castle Rock made its way out of the early hole, only to cool off when the Rockets lost to Zilla 68-56 in Wednesday’s knockout match at the state boys’ 1A basketball tournament in Yakima.

After Castle Rock led 6-5 early in the first quarter, Zila finished the quarter 20-4 and led 25-10.

Zila increased the lead to 17 before the Rockets reached 37-27 before the break.

The Rockets opened the second half with a 14-0 series and took a 41-37 lead after a three-point game by Tristina Marina.

In the fourth quarter, “Leopard” took the lead by five points, resulting in five minutes later jumper Landon Gardner reduced the score to 57-54.

But the Rockets earned just one basket for the rest of the way when Zila left.

Gardner led the Rockets with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Lane Partridge and Adam Partridge scored 13 points each, Adam Partridge made eight rebounds. The missiles were 2 of 13 from the 3-point range.
