The 34th Bloomsday Road Runners Club Turkey Trot was held at Manito Park

SPOKANE, WA. This Thanksgiving, people from the community around Manitowoc Park—from children to adults—came together for the 34th annual Bloomsday Road Runners Club Turkey Trot.

The tradition of the annual run brought together more than 2,000 people. Despite the freezing weather, runners or walkers joined the trot at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

“I’m thankful that people showed up,” said Jackie Van Allen, Turkey Trot Race Director. “It’s really slippery there. These are not ideal conditions, but people are still part of the community. It’s really heartwarming.”

The organizer of the event says that participants bring money or products to donate. They typically raise over $7,000 a year, with all donations going to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Event officials say participants have donated nearly $450,000 in food since 1988.
