A 7-year-old girl has died after a drunken boatman was hit in the Colorado River near the California-Arizona border, sheriff’s officials said.

A 7-year-old girl died after a boat hit while she was swimming in the Colorado River near the California-Arizona border, authorities said.

The girl was bathing close to the shoreline near Buckskin Mountain State Park when she was shot down around 5pm on Sunday, according to a press release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office.

Despite efforts to resuscitate her, the girl was pronounced dead at the hospital, the release said.

Sheriff’s officials said lawmakers had arrested the boat’s operator, 37-year-old Arthur Garcia of India, California, on suspicion of boating in a state of intoxication. They reported that at the time of the crash he was in a state of intoxication.

Sheriff’s representatives are asking anyone with information to call Deputy Bryant Moore or Brian Uek of the Colorado River Station at 760-326-9200.

Buckskin Mountain State Park is on the banks of the Colorado River in Arizona near Parker. There are several resorts on both sides of the river.
