A 71-year-old man was killed in a hang glider crash in northern Virginia on Thursday, March 3, police said.

A hang glider flight on Thursday, March 3, was fatal to a 71-year-old man in Virginia, police said.

Police said the victim, identified as Ward F. Odenwald of Woodbaine, Maryland, lost control of the hang glider and crashed into a tree before falling to the ground.

The accident happened shortly after 3 pm at the intersection of Woodstock Tower Road and Bernshire Lane in Shenandoah County in northern Virginia, according to a press release from Virginia Police.

According to police, Odenwald died at the scene.

According to police, he was the only person on the hang glider and no one on earth was injured.

Police said “Odenwald’s remains were taken to a forensic expert in Manasas for autopsy and examination. Officials are investigating the crash.

No other information was released on Sunday, March 6th.

Shenandoah County is located approximately 160 miles northwest of Richmond.
