South Carolina prosecutors say a woman accused of impersonating a nurse using someone else’s medical license is facing multiple charges.
Anderson resident Alyssa Beth Steele, 37, is accused of “allegedly practicing medicine as a registered an unlicensed nurse at seven nursing and nursing facilities in South Carolina,” according to a release from the state attorney general’s office.
Steele was first arrested on October 24 and charged with seven counts of neglect of a vulnerable adult, five counts of unlicensed practice as a registered nurse, one count of employment fraud and one count of obtaining a signature or property under false pretenses. worth $10,000 or more, according to the release.
From January 2020 to January 2022, Steele may have worked as a nurse using a Georgia State Board of Nursing license number that belonged to someone else, the release said. She worked at the following facilities, all of which cooperated with the investigation:
- Cascades Verdae Nursing Home in Greenville
- Ivy rehabilitation and health center in Ivy
- Piedmont Post Acute in Piedmont
- Brookdale, an assisted living facility in Anderson
- Condor Health in Anderson
- Easley Place Assisted Living Facility in Easley
- Fleetwood Rehab and Assisted Living in Easley
“At no time during this period did Steele possess the certifications, qualifications or training required to be a registered nurse,” the attorney general’s office said. “Pretending to be without authority, Steele’s conduct resulted in the denial of appropriate medical care and services to vulnerable adults and posed a substantial risk of physical or mental harm to the residents under her care.”
Anderson is about 120 miles northwest of Columbia.
