The Judo Federation has stripped Putin, a Russian oligarch, of his title

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) – The International Judo Federation has stripped Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin-backed oligarch of office.

“The International Judo Federation announces that Vladimir Putin and Arkady Rotenberg have been removed from all positions in the International Judo Federation,” a statement from Budapest’s governing body said on Sunday.

Putin’s honorary chairmanship of the IJF was suspended last week due to the organization’s reference to the “military conflict in Ukraine.”

The President of Russia is an avid judoka and participated in this sport at the 2012 London Olympics.

Rothenberg is a longtime friend of Putin from their hometown of St. Petersburg and was a member of the IJF executive committee as a “development manager”.
