Whatcom Sheriff’s Office deputies track down fugitive after residents report bullets flying overhead

Blaine, WA – Watcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies responded to a report of a dangerous shooting at 3800 Bay Road at about 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 30, after residents in the area reported bullets flying over their heads. .

According to WSCO spokesman Deb Slater, the witness removed the license plate of the suspect car, which led MPs to suspect Michael Robert Gubser, 31, of Blaine. Deputies found Gubser in his car in 8400 Harbourview Rd and tried to stop him. Instead of stopping, Gubser drove off.

Slater said MPs watched as he drove off the road onto a grass field where his car got stuck in the mud. A perimeter was created around the wooded area between Harborview Road, Anderson Road, Shintaffer Road and Lincoln Road to prevent Gubser from leaving the area.

At about 1:15 a.m., What-Comm 911 receivers received a call from a resident of Quarter 5000 on Lincoln Road who reported a man who was on the scene.
