WOLVERHAMPTON, England (AP) — Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers hired Julen Lopetegui as manager on Saturday.

Lopetegui was fired a month ago Sevilla after three years with the Spanish club, during which he led them to the Europa League title in 2020.

Lopetegui, 56, will take over on November 14, subject to a work permit after the team’s final game before the World Cup break.

“Julen is a top coach with excellent experience at the elite level of the game and we are delighted to have agreed to bring him to Wolves,” said club chairman Geoff Shea.

Steve Davis will remain as interim manager. After that, the under-18 youth coach temporarily led the first team Bruno Lage was fired in early October.

Wolverhampton host Brighton on Saturday and are just one point above bottom-placed Nottingham Forest.

“Julen has been our number one choice to manage Wolves from the outset and we look forward to welcoming him and his team when they join us in the coming weeks,” said Shea.
