Zags use offensive surge to crush Portland

SPOKANE, WA. — After winning its previous three games by eight points, the Gonzaga men’s basketball team had little trouble in its 115-75 victory over Portland on Saturday night.

It’s just the fourth time of the season that the Bulldogs have scored more than 100 points, with Malachi Smith leading the way with a season-high 27 points. Six Gonzaga players finished in double figures as the team shot 17-38 from 3-point range.

“I think just being the first one in, it’s always like a good feeling when the first one goes down. Everything else was like the ocean. I’ve been working on my shooting a lot, I’ve had games where I hit a lot of 3s. So the team believes in me and I believe in myself, so don’t even think about it,” Smith said.

With the win, Gonzaga improves to 16-3 on the season and 5-0 in the WCC. They will now welcome Loyola Marymount (13-7) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
