Oklahoma State Police say one family’s night out turned violent and ended in a shootout when two men got into a fight during a game of Monopoly.

The family was playing at a home on Tulsa’s east side around 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 26, the police department told KJRH. They also drank.

The man got into an argument with his stepfather that escalated into a physical altercation, police told KJRH. They overturned a Monopoly board and knocked over furniture before continuing the fight outside, as requested by a family member.

The suspect, later identified as John Armstrong, pulled out a gun during the struggle, police told KTUL.

His stepfather and half-sister fled down the street, and Armstrong chased after them with a gun in hand and shot them, the station said. Armstrong told police he fired one shot into the ground.

Law enforcement officers searched the house at the scene, found scattered pieces of Monopoly in the living room but could not find the gun, KOKI reported.

Armstrong was taken into custody on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, police told the newspaper.
