A Vancouver man arrested after a chase said he wanted to drop off his dog before pulling over

A Vancouver man was arrested Sunday after deputies say he refused to stop during a traffic stop in Battle Ground.

A Clark County sheriff’s sergeant attempted to pull over a vehicle driven by a man, later identified as 22-year-old Jason Tester, near the intersection of Northeast 119th Street and 117th Avenue at 6:48 p.m. According to the press release, the sergeant observed the tester driving 24 mph over the speed limit.

The sergeant said Tester refused to stop and continued driving at the speed limit and under traffic laws for about 5 miles.

“Tactical vehicle intervention was used” and Tester’s Mazda pickup truck was eventually stopped near Southeast Eaton Boulevard and Grace Avenue in Battle Ground, where he was taken into custody, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies said Tester told them he was trying to drop off the dog at a relative’s house before being pulled over because he didn’t know why he was being pulled over, according to the news release.

Tester was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of disobeying a police officer and resisting arrest. He was also booked on several outstanding warrants, which the sheriff’s office said were for similar traffic incidents.
