Washington offensive lineman Miles Jackson and Southside defensive lineman Xavier Hamm have been selected to the East roster for the second 252-919 All-Star Game next month in Greenville.

Pam Pack head coach Perry Owens and Southside defensive coordinator Andrea Quinerly will be part of 252 head coach Allen Wooten’s Havelock staff.

Former WHS quarterback Hayes Pippin and former Southside running back/defensive back Kenjray Cofield played for Team 252 in last year’s 49-13 loss to the senior teams from the 919 area code.

Jackson, who began his career at center, also played guard and tight end for WHS this fall in addition to seeing time on the defensive line.

“There were a lot of talented hitters to choose from, but Miles was the easy way,” Owens said. “He has been our anchor on the o-line the last three years and he represents WHS very well on the field and in the classroom. He can play center, guard or rebound, and is also capable of long shots. I am delighted that he is getting the recognition he deserves.”

Jackson and Hamm are among 40 players from 26 schools from all four Eastern divisions. J. H. Rose led the selections with four players, while Havelock, Northeastern and New Bern each had three.

“I feel a strong connection in trying to create exposure for kids in the 252 area code,” Owens said. “This game helps because there will be a lot of college coaches there for the game and during practice this week. I hope they will see that there are talented players in our area.”

Hamm plays on both sides of the ball for Southside and was moved to linebacker during the regular season. He helped the Seahawks to an 8-3 record and advance to the third round of the state playoffs.

“The entire Seahawk nation is extremely proud of Xavier for being selected as one of the 252 All-Stars,” said coach Jeff Carrow. “He deserves it because he is a leader on and off the field. He was captain for two years and excelled on both sides of the ball. We are also very proud of Coach Q for being selected as an assistant coach.”

Other members of the coaching staff include JH Rose’s Will Bland, DH Conley’s Nate Conner and Northampton County’s George Privot.

On Saturday, December 17, the John Paul II gymnasium will host the game.
