‘Draft is more fun’: Local entrepreneur takes ‘square keg’ to Shark Tank

SPOKANE, Wash. — A local entrepreneur is trying his luck pitching his product on Shark Tank.

With his episode set to air on Friday night, Tim Lukes is hoping that wealthy investors can take his small business, Square Keg, to new heights.

“Draft is more fun,” said Tim Loucks, who founded Square Keg.

This is an idea that Lux used back in 2017.

“I woke up in the middle of the night and just thought how inefficient round kegs are because they take up a lot of space to store, cool and transport,” he added.

A light went on in his head and he started making mini portable kegs that you can put in the fridge or take with you. He has a small team of five employees who are now shaping steel into a business.

“Our first product on the market is Square One,” Lux said. “It’s a mini keg, so you can put your favorite drink on tap in the fridge or freezer, in almost any environment.”

Over the summer, he entered a new environment by pitching his product on an episode of Shark Tank that airs Friday at 8:00 PM on ABC.

“It’s been a long process, but I think we’ll see tonight, it’s probably worth it,” he said of the Shark Tank opportunity, hoping wealthy sharks can grow his business.

The cost of quitting his job and starting a business from scratch wasn’t easy, but he wouldn’t trade it for anything.

“Being an entrepreneur, I think a lot of the time it’s portrayed as glamorous or an overnight success,” Lux concluded. “This is all a complete fake. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but at the same time the most enjoyable.”
