The football season for regional teams is coming to an end

The boys soccer season ended for Southside and Washington High School in the second round of the state playoffs Thursday night.

5thousandThe home seeded Seahawks lost 3-1 at home to #12 East Wake Academy, while #13 Pam Pack lost 4-0 to #4 Clinton.

East Wake (12-8) scored 15 minutes into the contest and then added another goal with five minutes left in the first half to take a 2-0 halftime lead.

Southside (17-5) controlled the midfield more and had more scoring chances in the second half.

Jonathan Perez pulled Southside within one with 29:12 left before East Wake scored on a rebound off the left post with seven minutes left in the third round.

“We knew they were going to be a lot faster than our opponent in the first round, and we still had a hard time adjusting,” coach Jay Petty said. “It was difficult to play our style in the first half because of their speed, but we did a lot better in the second half. We played 80 great minutes but the ball didn’t bounce back to us for the remaining 10. I thought we had a great second half of the season after a slow start. Towards the end things got better and we understood some things. I’m proud of our efforts and will miss our seniors.”

Washington, 13thousand top seed in 2A couldn’t generate enough offense against a strong second-round opponent at home in the No. 4 Clinton Dark Horses (19-2-3) as the Pack finished the season 18-5.
