The NYU men’s soccer team finished the regular season strong after beating Brandeis Judge 3-0 on Saturday, November 5th.

The win marked the Violets’ back-to-back wins after the team Washington University won last weekend. NYU is 3-0-2 in its last five conference games and has 11 points in the United Athletic Association conference standings, finishing the 2022 campaign in third place.

In Saturday’s match, the Violets dominated the entire game and conceded only one shot on goal. With less than a minute and a half left in the first half, senior forward Talal Saeed scored off a pass from senior midfielder Alex Roviros-Ila to give the Violets a 1-0 lead. It was Said’s first goal of the season.

Within five minutes of the second half, sophomore forward Nathan Bennett extended NYU’s lead to 2-0 with a goal assisted by junior forward Arkan Tahsildaroglu. In addition to his assist, Tahsildaroglu scored the final goal in the closing minutes of the match as the Violets won 3-0.

As a team, NYU outshot Brandeis 14 to 10 and had seven shots on goal.

NYU’s third-place finish in the UAA is tied for its best finish since then head coach Kim Wyant took office in 2015. The Violets also finished last season in third place.

The Violets are now focused on the NCAA tournament in hopes of earning a bid. If they qualify for the tournament, it will be NYU’s second straight trip to the postseason and third in the last four seasons. In last year’s tournament, the Violets beat St. Joseph’s College of Maine 3-2 in overtime in the first round.

The full 64-team bracket will be completed by Monday, November 7 at 1:30pm during NCAA Qualifying Show.
