Police found a dead newborn on a street in Phoenix AZ

A newborn baby was found dead on a Phoenix street, leaving neighbors horrified, according to police in Arizona.

A report of an injured child on a Phoenix street led to the discovery of a dead newborn, Arizona police told news outlets.

“This absolutely horrible,” neighbor Joel Coplin told KPNX. “They thought it was a doll at first, but it wasn’t.”

Police are responding to reports of an injured child found a newbornestimated to be born at 20 to 24 weeks, at 1 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, KNXV reported.

The district is located near a a large camp homeless, reports AZ Family.

Coplin told KPNX that a neighbor told him someone had set fire to something. According to Coplin, when residents went to put out the fire, they discovered a dead newborn.

Police have not released additional details about the find or the child.

The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy, according to KNXV.
