Police missing kayaker’s body in lake after search

A Massachusetts man has gone missing near a lake in New York, police say. The kayaker’s body was found after a two-week search.

New York State Police say a man last seen setting up his kayak along a lake has been found dead after a two-week search.

The the kayaker disappeared Oct. 22, when his kayak was found empty on Lake Canadaroga, which is in central New York, according to state authorities. This happened after he was seen near a boat on the shore of a lake.

On Nov. 7, the body of Frederick Mayock, 47, of Springfield, Massachusetts, was found after surfacing in the same lake, according to a news release and statement from police spokeswoman Aga Dembinski.

Police did not specify the cause of his death.

Before Mayock’s body was found, state police used a helicopter, drones and the department’s underwater search team in the search, according to the release.

Police were alerted to his disappearance when a witness reported seeing him a kayak floating on a lakereports MassLive.

Police have not released any other information regarding Mayock’s discovery.

Lake Canadarogo can rise to Depth 44 feet and occupies 1,944 hectares.

It is located in Otsego County, about 75 miles west of Albany.
