Sarah Sanders is elected governor of Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders has been elected governor of Arkansas and will become the first woman to lead the state.

On Tuesday, Sanders defeated Democratic candidate Chris Jones in the race for governor in her predominantly Republican home state.

Sanders will succeed fellow Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who is barred from term limits from seeking re-election.

Sanders broke fundraising records in her bid for governor and campaigned mostly on national issues.

She vowed to use the office to fight President Joe Biden’s agenda.

She becomes the most prominent former Trump official elected to office.
