COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — David Savard scored a gutsy goal against his former team early in the third period to send the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday night for their second win in three games.
Arber Jackage and Sean Monaghan also scored in the third for the Canadiens after the first two periods were scoreless. Sam Montembo made 29 saves as Montreal avenged a road loss to Columbus six days earlier.
Mathieu Olivier scored for the Blue Jackets and Jonas Korpisala stopped 26 shots in their second straight loss. Columbus dropped two of three, both at home.
The game was virtually tied for two periods before Olivier converted a loose pass to the Canadiens and scored from the right circle at 1:08 of the third.
Jekai tied the score 1:30 later when his shot from the blue line went past a screened Korpisal. Savar made it 2-1 at 3:35, tucking in a feed from Kirby Dach off the puck for his first goal of the season.
Monaghan added the empty netter at 18:07.
