GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Switzerland joined Australia and Great Britain in the Billie Jean King Cup semifinals after taking a 2-0 lead over Canada in Friday’s winner-takes-all group game.
After Victoria Golubic defeated Bianca Andreescu 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, Belinda Bencic beat Leila Fernandez 6-0, 7-5.
Last year’s runners-up Switzerland topped Group A in their bid for a maiden title in women’s tennis’ premier team event.
The Czech Republic will play the United States later on Friday. The winning team will play Switzerland in the semi-finals.
