The Guinness Book of Records named “the oldest cat in the world”

The “World’s Oldest Living Cat” begins a new chapter.

She lived for 26 years and 329 days, and in human years she is almost 120. And on Thursday, November 24, the Guinness Book of Records officially recognized her as the oldest cat on the planet.

“Don’t let her looks fool you: Flossie may still be as cute and playful as a kitten, but she’s an older woman,” Guinness said in a press release.

British cat Flossie lived a full life. She was spotted wandering the streets in 1995 and lived in a cat colony near the hospital.

The hospital workers decided to give everyone a home. Flossie was adopted by hospital workers in December of that year and suddenly “found herself surrounded by love, warm food and toys,” according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

The cat lived with its owner for ten years until it died. Then the owner’s sister took the cat.

“Unfortunately, after 14 years in a new home, the kitten found herself in need of a home again when her second owner also died,” Guinness said. “She was 24 at the time.”

The previous owner’s son took the cat in, but he decided that maybe he wasn’t the best owner for her at the time.

After Flossie had lived with him for three years, the son decided to give the cat to volunteers at Cats Protection in Tunbridge Wells, Crowborough and District.

“This was not an easy decision,” Naomi Rosling of Cats Protection said in a press release. “He reached out to us for help when it was in Flossie’s best interest. Responsible cat ownership is when someone puts the animal’s needs above their own feelings.”

However, the volunteers were “overwhelmed” by Flossie. They did not believe that the cat was 27 years old.

The brown and black cat is excellent for its age. Her current owner, Vicky Green, told the Guinness Book of World Records that she is “blind and deaf” but she is still playful and unfazed.

Green met Flossie at Cats Protection. She had experience caring for older cats and welcomed Flossie into her home.

“She was loud for the first few nights because she can’t see in the dark and was a little confused in her new environment, but she sleeps through the night snuggled up on the bed with me,” Green said.

Flossie has adapted well to the new chapter. She has a yellow blanket that she loves and she loves to cuddle and nap.

“If I’m in this good shape when I’m her age, with a man who does the best for me when I need it most, I’ll be a very happy woman,” Green said.

Flossie can live much longer. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the oldest cat that ever existed was a full decade older than Flossie. Creme Puff was born in Texas and lived for 38 years and three days.
