A hiker filming their walk along the Arizona Trail caught the celestial event on camera.
The hiker, Taylor Heading, was filming their walk along the Lava Stream Trail near Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument for a friend who was unable to make the trip when the meteor streaked across the cloudless blue sky.
Monument officials shared the video on Facebook and said the meteor was located “all over the Southwest” on Sunday, Nov. 6.
“Did you see flames flying across the sky around 11:50 a.m. yesterday, but didn’t believe what you were seeing? Don’t worry, it wasn’t aliens and you had no idea,” officials wrote in a Facebook post.
“Local meteor enthusiasts” want to see more photos and videos of the event, officials said. Anyone who documented it can send photos and videos to the address American Meteor Society.
