A 21-year-old man from Maine has been missing for 10 days, with no phone, wallet or medication, according to police and local media reports.

Samuel Mugisha was last seen leaving his Portland apartment wearing brown on the morning of November 4, according to news release from the Maine State Police. He is described as a 200-pound black man, 5’11” tall, with black hair, brown eyes and facial hair on his chin.

Mugisha often went to a family member’s home in Westbrook, a nearby town, but never showed up, according to police, who issued a silver alert on Nov. 7.

He “goes through episodes severe anxiety where he is unable to verbally communicate,” according to a news release from the Portland Police Department.

Mugisha, an immigrant from Kenya who works as a caregiver, can to forget from time to time where he is and passed out due to mental illness, the Portland Press Herald reported.

He left his wallet, mobile phone and medicine behind, as well as “any means of sustaining oneself,” according to the WGME.

“We love him. We miss him. I would tell him to go back home,” his cousin told the publication. “Home is safe. We have to take care of him. We are waiting for him, feel free to come home at any time.”

Mugisha can be saw hitchhiking wearing jeans and a white T-shirt near Rockport, about 80 miles north of Portland, on Nov. 11, according to updates from the Portland Police Department.

But family members have reviewed the surveillance photo and are “sure it’s not him,” the Portland Press Herald reported.

The police used drones and air boats to look for signs of Mugisha in the Presumpscot River and nearby wooded areas, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Anyone with information on Mugisha’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Portland Police Department at 207-874-8584.

There were no further updates when McClatchy News reached out to a spokesperson for the Portland Police Department.

More than half a million people go missing in the United States every year tens of thousands of those are considered missing for more than a year, according to the Justice Department’s National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.
