How to Keep Porn Off Your X Feed Now That It’s Officially Allowed

With the recent surge in bots making sexually suggestive posts on X, Elon Musk’s social media platform seems to be easing up on policing such content. The site, formerly known as Twitter, updated its policies over the weekend to allow “consensually produced and distributed adult nudity or sexual behavior,” albeit with certain safeguards to protect underage users.

This move is consistent with X’s historical approach to suggestive content, as the platform has never strictly regulated pornographic material. However, with an increasing number of “pussy in bio” posts appearing uninvited under otherwise innocuous threads, officially permitting nudes may be concerning for users who prefer a safe-for-work environment.

Technically, these posts could also be considered spam. Consent should include viewer consideration, not just the content creators. Here are some effective methods to clear your X timeline of unwanted pornographic content:

Report the Content

Even if porn is permitted, bots posting nudes and linking to external sites qualify as spam. Start by reporting these posts.

  1. Click on the three-dot menu in the top-right of the post.
  2. Select “Report post” next to the flag icon.
  3. Choose “Spam” and click “Next” to submit your report, where you can also opt to mute or block the user.

Alternatively, you can report posts for “Abuse & Harassment” or “Sensitive or disturbing media.” Choose the most appropriate category for each situation. Although reporting may not immediately eliminate these posts, it’s a good practice to protect fellow users.

Enable the Sensitive Content Filter

X has a built-in filter for sensitive content, which can block a wide range of material, including porn. This filter may be too broad for some users, as it also blocks violence and gore.

  1. Open X in a browser (the option may not be available in the app).
  2. Click on your profile icon, then “Settings and privacy.”
  3. Open the “Privacy and safety” menu.
  4. Under “Content you see,” ensure “Display media that may contain sensitive content” is unchecked.

This setting won’t prevent nudes in your replies, but it will require you to click through to view flagged content. You can also enable “Hide sensitive content” under “Search settings” to filter out flagged posts from search results.

Set Your Account to Under 18

This method is best for parents managing their children’s accounts. By setting the account holder’s age to under 18, X will restrict access to adult content.

  1. When setting up an account, either omit the birth date or set it to indicate an age under 18.

Mute Suggestive Words

To block specific suggestive terms from appearing in your feed:

  1. Navigate to “Settings,” then “Privacy and safety.”
  2. Open “Mute and block” and manage your “Muted words.”
  3. Add terms like “pussy in bio.”

This isn’t foolproof, as bots may use variations of suggestive terms, but it’s a helpful step.

Use a Parental Control or Porn Blocking App

With X’s block list feature no longer active, consider using external apps like Canopy to block pornographic content. These apps operate on your device and use AI to censor offending images in real-time.

Canopy is a paid service starting at $7.99 per month for individual users. It requires high-level permissions but promises not to sell your data and only uses what is necessary to provide its service.

By employing these strategies, you can better manage and reduce unwanted pornographic content on your X timeline, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable experience.
